ClassicTunes is made by Made with Fuel Ltd. This policy explains what the app and this website do with information about you. The short version: your library stays on your Mac, and nothing is collected about how you use the app.
The app
- Your library, iPods and settings stay on your Mac. ClassicTunes has no account and sends no analytics or usage data.
- Looking things up. When you ask ClassicTunes to fill in missing details or find covers, it sends the album's artist and title to Apple's iTunes Search service and to MusicBrainz. Importing a CD sends its table of contents to look it up and to check it against AccurateRip.
- Podcasts are downloaded directly from the addresses in their feeds.
- Scrobbling, if you turn it on, sends what you play (artist, title, album, length and time) to ListenBrainz under your account. Your ListenBrainz token is kept in your Mac's keychain.
- Your license. Activating a license sends classictunes.app the license key, the Mac's name, the app's version and a code made from your Mac's hardware ID (not the ID itself), so a license can be used on 2 Macs. After that, ClassicTunes checks the license on your Mac, and about once a month, when it's online, asks classictunes.app whether the license is still active on that Mac, sending the license key and the same code. If it can't get through, nothing changes. The Manage Your Macs page shows a license's Macs (their names, and when each was activated and last checked in) to anyone who enters its key, so keep your key to yourself.
- Updates. ClassicTunes checks classictunes.app for new versions. The request includes the app's version and your version of macOS.
- Photos and Music. ClassicTunes only reads your Photos and Music libraries when you choose photos or songs from them, and asks macOS for permission first.
Buying
Purchases are handled by Paddle, the merchant of record, under Paddle's privacy policy. We receive your name, email address and country to send and look after your license. License emails are sent through Resend.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, and nothing on it tracks you from site to site.
We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which is made in the EU and only gives us totals: how many people visited, which pages they read, which site sent them, and their country, browser and type of device. Plausible doesn't use cookies, store anything on your device, keep your IP address, or identify you, and it never shares the data. We also count a few actions, without any details about who did them: clicking Buy now, Email Me at Launch or a link to another website, downloading ClassicTunes, completing a purchase, sending one of this site's forms (only that it was sent, never what was typed in it), and reaching a page that doesn't exist. See Plausible's data policy.
Some pages recommend things we've tested, such as a cable, with affiliate links to Amazon, marked as such beside each link. If you follow one, you're on Amazon's website, under Amazon's own privacy notice, and Amazon sets its own cookies. We learn only that a purchase was made through our link, not who made it.
If you change the Appearance or Accessibility settings at the top of the page, your browser remembers your choices; they stay on your device.
